Little Rock
March 18, 2024  The Power Technology team, as leading experts in lasers and the science of light for more than 55 years, will collaborate with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in an eclipse viewing party at Jack Stephens Center on April 8, 2024.

“As a laser manufacturer, we are a company built around light, making this eclipse especially momentous for us. UA Little Rock’s campus will be an amazing place to view the Great North American Eclipse in the narrow path of totality. It is a unique opportunity to engage with our community around this special astronomical event where light, and the lack thereof, will take center stage,” said Walter Burgess, co-CEO of Power Technology.

“As light experts, we are excited to also study the eclipse from a scientific angle. We will be using the instruments we normally use to measure lasers to display real-time changes in both the brightness and spectrum of the sun as they occur during the event. We have been analyzing and talking about light at a high level since 1969, making this moment very special for us. There have been only six total solar eclipses visible from the U.S. since our founding,” he said.

Additionally, viewers will be provided with ISO- and NASA-approved eclipse viewing glasses.

The eclipse will begin in central Arkansas at approximately 12:33 p.m. and reach maximum totality at 1:52 p.m. The next total solar eclipse that will be seen from the contiguous U.S. will not occur again until the year 2044.
