Power Technology Now ITAR Registered

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., April 14, 2010 —  Laser manufacturer Power Technology Inc. announced it is now International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) registered, expanding the choices of lasers available to military and defense customers.

With more than 40 years experience, PTI’s laser designs have supported Fortune 500 companies in the biomedical, semiconductor and industrial markets. It can now bring design and manufacturing capabilities to a broader customer base within the military community.

Previously, it had served the military market under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), which is enforced by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). Under the EAR, it could build and export “Dual Use” lasers with applications in both industry and the military.

The company is now able to design and manufacture lasers specifically for military applications, said the company. Applications include laser diode subassemblies built for target designation, range finding, illumination for night vision, and aiming, sighting and defensive countermeasures regardless of whether they are UAV mounted, vehicle mounted or handheld systems.

ITAR is administered by the Office of the Defense Trade Controls Compliance (DDTC), under authority established by the Arms Export Control Act (AECA). It regulates the manufacture, export, import and transfer of defense articles and services, and is a precursor to serving the homeland security, aerospace and military markets.
